CMA and Scholastic Team Up for Historic Virtual Field Trip with Winter as the Star
October 2009 was a big month for Miss Winter. She turned four, Scholastic released a book about her and kids all over the world tuned in via the Web to see Winter swim in her pool with her one-of-a-kind prosthetic tail and to learn more about her story of survival and inspiration.
October 7, CMA, Turtle Pond Publications and Scholastic made history with a live virtual field trip held at Winter’s home. More than 350,000 teachers and students went online to take part in Scholastic’s most-watched Webcast ever. Students explored facts about dolphins and learned about the true story of Winter, whose journey of courage and determination is documented in the new book, Winter’s Tail: How One Little Dolphin Learned to Swim Again. Best-Selling Author Craig Hatkoff, Winter’s trainers, the makers of Winter’s prosthetic tail, Winter herself and people inspired by Winter participated in the educational event.
The Webcast was watched all over the U.S., Canada, the Virgin Islands, France, Israel, the Bahamas, United Arab Emirates, Bolivia, Puerto Rico and Bermuda! It’s been replayed about 13,000 times already! To watch the Webcast, visit http://www.scholastic.com/winterstail/. Winter’s Tail is the newest children’s book by #1 New York Times bestselling children’s authors, Craig Hatkoff and his daughters Juliana and Isabella Hatkoff.
