Winter’s Friends

Winter has friends all over the world and her will to survive and thrive has inspired thousands. Here are just some of their stories. If you would like to share how Winter became your friend, please email us and let us know.

Here’s are a few of our latest Winter’s Friend story:

Eleven-year-old Shay Wakefield, who lives in Clearwater, FL, had no idea why her mom really brought her to CMA. It was for her to be part of the “Paint with Winter” program in honor of her birthday. “Winter is so special and is like no other dolphin,” Shay said. “People didn’t expect her to survive, but she did and now even inspires others!” Shay truly enjoyed her birthday surprise. After all, it’s not every day you get to finish painting a picture that a dolphin started!

Twelve-year-old Gianna Hay, who lives in Plainfield, IL, truly enjoyed meeting Winter. Today, thanks to Hanger Prosthetics, Winter swims like other dolphins by using a prosthetic tail. Gianna is using the same doctors that Winter does! About a year ago, Gianna received a prosthetic leg. Like Winter, Gianna has persevered and says, “If she can do it, I can do it too. Winter is an inspiration to me.” The two truly enjoyed meeting each other.

Larry Switzer, who lives in Detroit, ME, was brought to ears when he met Winter. “I am at a loss for words,” Larry said. “It was the best experience of being here in Florida. It was exhilarating to be up close and personal with Winter.”
